Haptic stimuli give rise to physiological activities which are deeply coupled with emotions.
We are establishing haptic interfaces for hyper-emotional experiences whilst elucidating underlying principles
and optimization of the interfaces.

Emotions magnified by vibro-interoceptive stimuli
Horror movies to be more horrific. Sports movies to be more exciting. Vibratory stimuli to upper bodies
have such effects.
Haptic stimuli timed with emotional scenes in the video make audio-visual contents more arousing.
We are studying the optimization of such stimuli.
We have been developing a haptic interface to stimulate outer-ear (outer part of auditory meatus), in which vagus nerves end.
We have demonstrated that a sound-synchronized friction stimuli to the ear make emotional experiences from natural sounds to
be more pleasant and relaxed.
We have continued to advance this technique.
How can we match haptic stimuli with the color?
We allocated them on the emotional space and sought the best combinations between the color and vibrotactile stimulus.
For example, rapid and high-frequency Vibration is arousing and corresponds to red.
Low-frequency and prolonged vibration is less arousing and feels sad. These are close to the concepts of purple.
Emotional information contents can be more appealing when being delivered with congruent color and haptic cues.
