Abstract

More and more attention is given to the development of service robots that perform useful tasks and service activities for people, excluding industrial automation applications. However, even though the technological developments are promising, the majority of service robots do not reach the market. Many stakeholders are involved in service provision with service robots, from people to physical products. Since, the services are normally produced and consumed simultaneously, it is expected that the system will be improved after introducing the robot. Modular design is an effective method for improvement in products and software design such as robots. However, a method that can approach both robotic systems and service systems simultaneously has not been established. In this research, we propose a tool called “Service Robot Design Matrix” which support to comprehensively understand the components of service robots and service systems, and to design service robots on a continuous basis, in order to promote the social implementation of service robots.
